Marble Cake (Zebra Cake)

Chocolate or Vanilla?

Do you ever just want that rich vanilla taste in a cake and also that fudge chocolate taste? Well this cake has both for those!

Marble cake consists of a rich vanilla layer and a chocolate layer and then slightly mixed together to create a marble effect. In order to achieve this effect you take a butter knife and then swirl the batter together in a zig zag motion. This cake is super easy and fun to make. It is also a great way to get your kids to stop arguing about chocolate vs vanilla cake! :)

Some tips before you start:

Tip #1

Remember to spray your bundt pan really well so your cake doesn't crumble when you start to take it out. If you do not spray your pan well before you put in your batter, your cake will start to crumble when taking it out

Tip #2: When you are creating the marble effect with your butter knife, you should try to mix as less as possible. If you over mix it your chocolate batter and vanilla cake will combine to create chocolate cake.

Tip #3: Add LESS sugar!!! Sugar is not the key to deserts! Having too much sugar can overpower the dessert and it will end up tasting like a sugar bomb! If you do like to have extra sugar than normal then i would recommend to add and extra teaspoon of vanilla extract.

Recipe:

Ingredients:

1/2 cup coco powder

1/2 cup sugar (to go with chocolate mixture)

1/2 cup water

4 oz chocolate chips

1 cup milk

4 eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

3 cups all purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

3/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup unsalted butter

Instructions:

  1. In a small saucepan mix together coco powder, sugar, and water on high heat until smooth.

  2. Turn off heat and add in chocolate to the saucepan and mix until smooth. Set aside while you make batter

  3. Turn on over to 325 degrees and spray bundt pan very well. I use bakers joy bundt cake spray

  4. In a medium bowl add milk, eggs, and vanilla and mix until combined

  5. In a large bowl add flour, baking soda, baking, powder, and salt and mix until combined

  6. Add butter and half the milk mixture into the flour bowl and mix. Add the remaining milk mixture and mix well. (if there are a few bumps that is normal)

  7. transfer a little less than half the batter into a separate bowl and add in the chocolate sauce into it.

  8. Bake for about 60 min

  9. Take out cake and place on a cooling rack and let it sit for about 30 min

  10. take out cake from bundt pan and ENJOY! 😊
