If you ever go to Puerto Rico, it is the perfect place to try out new activities, beaches, and FOODS!! Although Puerto Rico is still considered a part of the U.S. the foods are very different than your typical America foods.
During our stay at Puerto Rico we stayed near San Juan, where they had many different and unique types of foods. One type of food that they are known for are fried plantains. If you are not sure what they are, they are like a banana looking fruit (picture below).

Fried Plantains (picture below): These are a famous Puerto Rican dish! As you can see in the picture above, they look like a banana, but they are a bit bigger and wider. Plantains are also more starchy than bananas, meaning, you cannot eat them raw. You can eat these boiled or fried but personally fried taste much better to me. Note: These fruits are not sweet like banana so the taste might take some time to get used to, but it is defiantly still worth a shot trying them!

Pork in Plantain Gravy (picture below): Out of all the foods we tried at San Juan, this was by far my favorite. This dish had pork that was mixed with a tangy, brown, thick gravy. It came with white rice and a salad on the side. This was the BEST dish I had during my entire stay there! The gravy had a good flavor and it was tangy and spicy at the same time! It also came with tons of pork inside so it is quite filling, this dish is easily enough for 2 people to share.

Oven baked pork cubes (picture below): I had really high hopes for this next dish and it kinda let me down. The next dish we ordered were Oven baked pork cubes and they were honestly my least favorite dish. They do give a lot of pork which is a great thing but the pork itself was too hard and not as soft as I would have liked it. This dish also did not come with any kind of gravy to go with the rice, which just left the food a little bland and not that filling.

Pina Colada (picture below): A Pina Colada is a cold beverage/cocktail, which makes it perfect to drink on a hot day! A Pina Colada can be made alcoholic or non alcoholic. I personally have only tried the non alcoholic one since I am not 21 yet. The difference is that they add a little bit of light rum in the alcoholic Pina Colada. Pina Coladas are usually made with coconut milk, pineapple juice and blended with shaved ice! This is the perfect drink to get on a hot summer day, ESPECIALLY in Puerto Rico!

Overall Puerto Rico is an AMAZING place to explore and they have very different and new foods to try out! My top recommendation are the fried Plantains as that is what Puerto Rico is known for! I hope you found this helpful and enjoy your trip to Puerto Rico!
