Sugar and Chocolate Donut Holes - Recipe and Tips

Donuts might not be the healthiest treat option but once in a while it is okay to treat yourself to one of these irresistible treats. Donuts are such a fun and versatile treat because you can custom me them to your liking. You can create your own unique fillings and toppings for your donuts. In this article you will get some tips and tricks to make your donuts extra YUMMY!



Tip #1: If making Sugared donuts, put less sugar in the batter

When you make sugar donuts you have to be careful with thee amount of sugar you put into the batter. You have to keep in mind that there will also be an outer layer of extra sugar on the donut, so you donut was to overdo the sweetness. Personally my family does not likely overly sweet treats, so whenever I use a recipe I like to level down the sweetness.

Tip #2: Use a cookie scooper to get the donut hole shape

Donut batters are very sticky so it's very hard to mold the donut hole shape with your hands. When you use a cookie scoop it is easy to scoop a bit of batter and then drop it into the oil.


Tip #3: Put small amounts of batter into the oil

The donut batter includes a lot of baking powder so when you put it into the oil it will expand a lot. Just be aware that the amount of batter you put into the oil will expand at least twice the size.





Donut Recipe Ingredients:

2 cups All Purpose Flour

1/5 cup of granulated sugar

1 1/2 tbsp of Baking Powder

1/2 tsp of salt

1 egg

1 cup of milk (I use 2% milk)

1/2 vanilla extract

1/4 melted butter

Oil for frying (I use vegetable oil)


Instructions:

  1. Pour oil into a large bottomed pan. The oil should fill up about 2 inches of the pan. Heat over medium heat until oil heats up to 350 degrees.

  2. Whisk together flour, baking powder, salt and sugar in a large bowl

  3. Whisk together egg, vanilla extract, and milk in a small bowl

  4. Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients and mix together for a few seconds

  5. Add melted butter into the batter and mix until it forms a thick batter

  6. Take a plate and line paper towels on it (to soak the excess oil)

  7. Once oil reaches 350 degrees, scoop up batter and drop into hot oil. Fry each side for about 2 minuets.

Sugared Donuts:

Put granulated into a plate and take the hot donuts and roll in the sugar.


Chocolate:

Take a pan and put chocolate chips and heavy cream and mix together until melted. Dip donuts into chocolate ganache.
